Additional fun at Puzzling World!

Friday, 20 March 2026

Hot on the heels of celebrating 50 years of business with new Illusion Rooms, artworks and front courtyard projects, Wanaka’s Puzzling World is, once again, set to redevelop a large part of the popular site over the latter part of 2026.

Since taking on the family business in 2004, Heidi and Duncan Spear have transformed the popular destination to become a world-leader in this form of ‘edutainment’ while maintaining Puzzling World’s original charm. They have also recently welcomed their five millionth guest, inspiring them to continue the pattern of growth and development the business has followed since opening its doors in 1973.

The project, again using their long-time architect partners, Condon Scott, is set to redefine the back courtyard space into a spacious covered zone with rooftop viewing platforms, event rooms, and dining areas leading to a refurbished Roman Toilet block. The revitalised courtyard space will also feature a stunning 5-metre-high hyper-realistic Cherry Tree created by world-class local set designer, Ryan Limmer.

“We had planned a similar development just before COVID-19 hit, so we're really pleased to finally bring this idea to fruition and tick some boxes in terms of functionality, usability, and creating some really cool spaces”, Duncan said.
